About
The story behind the stories
After 25 years building software, I've learned that the best stories happen away from the keyboard. This is where I share them.
The Name
Le Martel is French for “The Hammer” - a nod to my French roots. A nice coincidence given France's history with Cambodia, a country that's become a big part of our lives.
A Bit About Me
By day, I'm a developer. By every other moment, I'm chasing adventures with my family - whether that's hiking a new trail, hunting down the best street food in a foreign city, or simply finding joy in the everyday moments that make life rich.
My wife's Cambodian roots have woven Southeast Asia deeply into our family story. What started as visits to see extended family has grown into something more - a second home, a place we return to often, and where we dream of spending our later years. You'll find Cambodia woven throughout these pages, from hidden temples to family recipes to the chaos and beauty of Phnom Penh.
What You'll Find Here
This blog reflects the things our family loves:
- Travel - From local day trips to far-flung adventures, with a particular love for Southeast Asia and the places that feel like home away from home.
- Food - The meals that define a place, the hidden gems worth seeking out, and the family recipes that connect generations.
- Family Life - The outdoor adventures, the quiet moments, and the experiences that bring us together.
- Tech & Automobiles - Occasionally, the developer in me surfaces - along with a lifelong appreciation for cars and the open road.
Why Write?
I left social media and never looked back. Beyond the fleeting nature of posts, I found it increasingly toxic - the endless scroll, the outrage cycles, the algorithms designed to keep you anxious and engaged. Life is better without it.
This blog is my alternative. A place to tell longer stories, preserve real memories, and share genuinely useful information with anyone planning their own adventures. No algorithms, no drama - just honest writing about the things that matter to me.
